Competition Team

The Master’s Martial Arts Academy Competition Team is a collection of committed athletes of all skill levels who want to push themselves toward excellence in the sport.  Sensei Steve Napier has coached competitors since 1986.  He has helped over 350 members of his team to achieve US National Championships status and 15 members to achieve World Championship status.  His extensive experience both as a world class competitor himself and as a coach provides a unique opportunity for success in competitive kata, kobuto, and kumite.

What is the commitment?

  • Attend weekly Friday practices and any additional special practices scheduled.

  • Daily practice skills at and above your current belt level daily to perfect them for competition.  This includes kata, kobuto, and kumite.

  • Purchase necessary competition approved uniforms/weapons/equipment to compete in the desired categories.

  • Participate in competitions attended by the team – both local and those that require travel in the USA.  There is an entry fee for each competition.  Individual travel costs are the competitor’s responsibility.

  • Participate in all team fundraising activities.

  • Share the cost of participation and travel expenses for the team coaches.

What are the costs?

The cost of instruction for the competition team is $50 each month.  This breaks down to $12.50 per lesson.  This tuition is due in full at the first practice of the month.  We will no longer be paying “per lesson”.  In the event there are less than 4 practices offered in the month, we will reduce the fees accordingly.  Your attendance is assumed the same as it is for regular classes with not refund for missed clasees.  Competition class fees are  payable through cash or check only.  Checks should be written payable to Steve Napier (not The Master’s Martial Arts Academy or TMMAA).

The fees are used to cover the operating expenses of opening the dojo on days it is otherwise closed, and is collected to pay for team coaching and travel expenses.  Our coaches volunteer their time to train the competitors, and attend the competitions.  There are also often fees associated with being permitted to coach on the competition floor, and travel expenses such as gas and hotels.

USANKF Membership is required for various tournaments held under this organization.  Each athlete will need to purchase a membership in order to be permitted to register and compete at these events.  An individual athlete annual membership is $60 per year  USANKF Membership Info

In the future, our non-profit booster organization, Karateka Funding Corporation, will cover some or all of the cost of instruction fees, Membership costs, and travel expenses.
